The Eight Vices - Avarice
Easy to remove but also easy to grow. Avarice can be the root of all other evils

Avarice is one of the strange vices. It is not the strongest, but can have a profound affect on us, and also open the doors for all of the other demon temptations to enter. The demon of avarice is actually foreign to our human nature and it only truly gains access to us due to lack of our faith.
Think of it. It is something that comes from the external. We chase it, we earn it, we cheat and steal for it, we eny it and we worship it when we have it. This is a corrupting force, and hence the title of the "root of all evil"
The strength of avarice is not in itself, but in the way that the other vices drive and contribute to it. Gluttony for example can make us chase it. When we are upset and angry or listless oe dejected, we can seek it out to sooth us, instead of looking into ourselves and our faith for solace. Avarice will up-end and displace God in your life.
One last form of avarice is based in fear. The fear of poverty and lacking and that, coupled with a loss of faith, means we will not believe that God will provide for us. Instad we will look outward for false validations in avarice and that false sense of achievement and gain, that we should feel will and can only come from the Lord our God.
